Jake Sudderth grew up in Seattle and has spent his adult life on the East Coast. He has written numerous nonfiction essays and biographies focusing on the Civil Rights Movement, writers, sports and business history. His love of fiction grew after he realized (as a reader) how imaginative narration can accomplish what nonfiction is ultimately unable to do: provide all necessary details to frame a story. The Sovereign is Mr. Sudderth’s first novel.
